The Five ‘Positions’ of a Resilient Dancer
The Key to a Long and Healthy Dance Career
Yes! I want my dancer to thrive. You know the dancer’s life. You’re living it with your teen. Constant training, rehearsals, performances…
You’re so proud. You’ve seen your child blossom into an amazing dancer, expressing art with grace and beauty. You know they dream of a long career in dance. And you are fully supportive and excited for them.
But you worry.
You know the statistics. Most dancers don’t make it past 30 on the stage. Injuries are rampant. And you see these beautiful girls, so worried about the way their bodies look, resorting to unhealthy and sometimes even dangerous habits.
You watch these teens push themselves so hard — physically and mentally. You’ve seen injuries, health issues, and mental health breakdowns.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
Your dancer can have the long career they dream of. Your dancer doesn’t And they don’t have to depend on luck, or even genetics.
The secret to a long and healthy career is…Resilience.
A resilient dancer will:
ā Bounce back from challenges
ā Develop increased focus
ā Improve performance
ā Reduce propensity toward injury
How does your dancer develop resilience? According to research, focusing on a few key life skills and strategies will help them maintain longevity and relative health throughout their career in dance.
Join Amy Saloner, FNTP, LCSW and Lisa Spencer Ed.D., FNTP for The Five ‘Positions’ of a Resilient Dancer.
Meet Amy — Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, dancer, and resident dance mom.
As a dancer myself, I know the rigors of the dance world — the historically unhealthy focus on body image, misinformation about appropriate fueling, and damaging practices in cross training.
I teach dancers how to make good food choices, take care of their bodies, and develop the resilience they need to keep pushing themselves without burning out.
Meet Lisa — Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner and highly-trained educator specializing in female performance nutrition, and athlete.
As a life-long athlete, trainer, coach, functional nutritionist, and former school counselor and college professor, I use a multi-faceted approach empowering young athletes to perform at their highest capacity.
Understanding the connection between nutrition and performance enables my clients to own their unique fueling and recovery needs building confident and resilient athletes.
During this 75-minute pre-recorded workshop, you and your dancer will learn how to develop resilience through:
ā Hydration
Proper hydration is pivotal for sustained, peak performance. We’ll clear up the confusion around what to drink, how much to drink, and even when to drink.
ā Nutrient Timing
Your dancer will learn to fuel the body efficiently so they are ready to meet the moment — whether it’s time to train, rehearse, perform, or rest.
ā Inflammation and Injury Prevention
Injury prevention is key to a long and healthy career in dance. You’ll learn how to prevent injury and how to keep inflammation from taking your dancer down.
ā Bio-Individuality
The principles of resilience apply to everyone. But we aren’t all alike. It’s important to make sure that your dancer has their unique, individual needs met.
ā Dance/Life Balance
A long and healthy dance career doesn’t depend on physical health alone. Mental and emotional health are key. We’ll talk about how to help your dancer stay in peak shape, while still taking the time to experience the joy and fun that the teenage years have to offer.
What parents are saying…
This is a great foundational class for all budding athletes/dancers. They need to learn their bodies and how to care for them in all sorts of ways, but especially when they are dancing at a high level.
Amy and Lisa offer a safe space to learn in both a professional and personal manner. This should be included in every athlete's curriculum!
This course offers knowledge that these dancers/athletes will use for the rest of their lives to stay healthy, strong, and resilient which in itself encourages confidence and happiness. As a parent that is PRICELESS!!
What students are saying…
I liked learning about fueling my body with the right foods and knowing when my body needs something, such as energy or more hydration.
I got a better understanding of how to properly fuel my body and what consists of a “well rounded” meal. Most of all, I got a general idea of how to become more resilient.
